Jorge Luiz Dias de Lima, better known as Mestre DiMola, started Capoeira in 1979 with the Group Senzala under Mestre Camisa (one of the finest, most influential, and best known Capoeiristas in recent history) in Rio de Janeiro. After some years, Mestre Camisa decided to form his own group and created the Group Abada. Mestre DiMola followed Mestre Camisa to this new group.

On August 26, 1995 Mestre Di Mola graduated to a full mestre, “thus taking the red rope by the hands of his master, Mestre Camisa and Mestre Camisa Roxa (Mestre Camisa’s older brother)”. After more than 20 years beside Mestre Camisa, Mestre DiMola decided to leave the Group Abada and create his own group. In tribute to Rio de Janeiro the group was baptized with the name Guanabara. Guanabara was the original name of Rio de Janeiro.

Mestre DiMola’s intention was to create a small, but high quality group with a philosophy to respect human beings, and respect and preserve families. Thanks to his great commitment and loyalty to Capoeira, the Group Guanabara has grown a great deal. Mestre Preguiça and Mestre DiMola combined their efforts and energies to unify their independent Capoeira groups. As a result Omulu Guanabara Capoeira was born.

Throughout Mestre DiMola’s long history in Capoeira he has visited and taught courses in many cities in Brazil, the USA, Sweden, Holland, Spain, Israel, France, Belgium, and Canada. Mestre DiMola has been living in Sweden since 2003 with his family.  He has taught the art of Capoeira to many, and made good capoeiristas.

The Secret Art That Survived All Odds

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian blend of martial art, game, and dance created by enslaved Africans in Brazil during the 16th Century. Portugal shipped slaves into South America from western Africa and  Brazil was one of the many American destinations for African captives. These Africans brought their cultural traditions and religions with them to the New World. Capoeira emerged as a way to resist oppression, secretly practice art, transmit culture, and lift spirits.
